AROC serves poor and working class Arabs and Muslims across the San Francisco Bay Area, while organizing to overturn racism, forced migration, and militarism.
Position Summary
The Social Services Associate will provide outreach and service connection services to low-income Arab immigrants who face exceptional isolation in their neighborhood and schools. Outreach and service connection will include Know Your Rights information, intake and assessment, referrals and placements for relevant social services, and case management follow up to monitor progress and provide ongoing support for but not limited to language access, housing, immigration, healthcare, education, employment, and domestic violence. Associate is responsible for associated grant reporting and admin work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
SERVICE CONNECTION (40%)
- Conducts client intake and assessment to determine relevant service connection services.
- Support filing services applications for clients, consistent follow up and monitoring for completion.
- Documents client assessments in database filing system and monitors progression of service connection.
- Shares opportunities for clients involvement in other AROC programs and advocacy on a local and regional level.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION (30%)
- Implements community outreach plans to inform and educate Arab and Muslim communities on Know Your Rights, service connection services, and other organizational projects including language access.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES (20%)
- Welcome clients and community members into AROC’s office space, assess their needs, direct their inquiries to the appropriate team, and maintain and facilitate their communication with staff members.
- Manage administrative responsibilities: answering phone calls; cataloging voicemails; supporting with file systems.
- Coordination with legal services team on supply needs and other collaborative administrative functions.
- Tracks outreach efforts in database filing system.
- Responsible for reporting and tracking multiple grants and contracts.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
- Participates in weekly staff meetings to coordinate with other program staff.
- Participates in annual staff assessment retreats to evaluate program goals, work performance, and work plans.
- Engages and contributes to political education and leadership development spaces.
Education and/or Experience
- Bilingual in Arabic / English, strong proficiency in both languages is minimum requirement.
- Personal organization, clear and compassionate communication skills.
- Strong commitment to social, racial and economic justice.
- At least two years of experience in community organizing with communities of color (preferably low-income, immigrant, LGBTQ, or other oppressed communities).
- Familiarity with the county of San Francisco and the surrounding region, including – local history, knowledge of various organizations, political issues and players etc. strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fluent in Arabic & English (writing & reading Arabic preferred but not necessary).
- Strong people skills in person, by phone and email.
- Ability to produce quality written work, including letters and outreach material .
- High level follow through and ability to work independently.
- Computer skills: databases and data entry, Zoom, MS Office (required); BOX (preferred), google suite (preferred), Slack (preferred).
- Self-motivated, communicates well with co-workers, able to work in small teams.
- Commitment to working with multi-racial coalitions, commitment to racial and economic justice, and immigrant rights.
