Rise Up and Stop the U.S.-Backed Genocide in Gaza
×
Our hearts break and our spirits rage for those in Rafah who, after eight months of narrow survival, became victims of yet another U.S.-funded massacre this week. We saw the corpses of children and babies burned alive, dismembered, and decapitated. We saw families braving the flames to pull their loved ones out of burning tents, all within a so-called “safe zone” that Israel had forced people into. As Israel continues to drop American-made two ton bombs on refugee camps and traumatized civilians, we call on all people of conscience to stop this slaughter and end this country’s growing complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people.
The Rafah massacre occurred just days after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to halt its military operations in Rafah, and the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. But Israel remains unmoved by international law, as it has refused to heed the condemnation of nearly every country on Earth, the investigations of every international human rights organization, and the cries of hundreds of millions protesting the wanton slaughter of a thousand innocent civilians every week. The singular reason for Israel’s ability to act with such disregard and impunity is the unquestioning support it continues to receive from the Biden administration.
Despite Israel becoming an isolated pariah in the eyes of the world, support from the United States has never wavered. Eight months ago, President Biden fanned the flames of Israel’s impending genocide on Gaza and justified Israel’s actions by claiming he had seen images of “decapitated Israeli babies,” a lie which led to widespread misinformation and saber-rattling from the largest news outlets in the U.S. Now that the world has seen video proof of Israel burning and dismembering children and babies, he is silent and again refuses to acknowledge the suffering or even basic humanity of Palestinian people. Just weeks ago, President Biden promised that attacking Rafah, the last “safe” place in Gaza, was a “red line.” With that line fully crossed, he has yet to issue a public condemnation, let alone the arms embargo, diplomatic sanctions, or any action that could materially constrain this slaughter.
President Biden and his administration have had the power to stop this genocide at any point in the last 9 months. Whether driven by commitments to U.S. imperialism, by his own racism or Zionism – or all three – Biden’s words and deeds aid and abet a fascist genocidal regime. And his actions cut violently against the desires and interests of the majority of people here in the U.S. and globally. It has never been more apparent to the international community that the fight against U.S.-sponsored Israeli terrorism is a fight for the future of all humanity.
We have built the largest movement for Palestine in history. As we’ve fought back and marched forward, it is up to us to stop this U.S.-Israeli war on Palestine. It is up to us to beat back fascism. It is up to us to do everything in our power to show our government that complicity in genocide is no longer an option.
We, along with all people of conscience, demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire to the war on Gaza. This can only be accomplished when the U.S. government halts all Israeli military aid.. And we call on all states to boycott, divest and sanction the apartheid state of Israel. We must fight with all our strength for the people of Gaza, and for our collective humanity, until these horrors cease.
